How to Prepare for GCP : Professional Data Engineer Exam

Hey guys, so I passed the GCP : Professional Data Engineer exam on 17th January 2020 and I went through a really tough time gathering all the resources to study and practice. So, I thought that it would be great if I could collate all the things at one place which would help other aspiring people to prepare thoroughly for the exam. The exam pattern has been changed since March’19 and all the things included in this post are w.r.t the new pattern. I will also be attaching links for each and every resource that I mention in this article so that all you need to do is follow along and start preparing.

Firstly, let’s get an understanding of the exam

Some facts about the exam

  1. The cost of this exam is $200.
  2. The exam will have 50 questions comprising of MCQs with one/multiple correct answers.(No case-study based questions)
  3. This is a 2 hour long exam. You can leave as soon as you have finished.
  4. You will get your result as soon as you end the exam.
  5. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
  6. Your certificate will be valid for 2 years from the day you appear for the exam. The official certificate will arrive in your registered email inbox in approximately 2–5 working days
  7. Once you pass the exam, you will receive a voucher code that you can redeem by going the google store link provided to you. You can order yourself any of the available perks at the store or wait till something interesting pops up.

Now that we have a better understanding of the exam, lets go ahead and start with the things you will need to prepare for this exam

0. Some Pre-requisites for the exam

If you have like a little bit hands-on with GCP and know what the basic services are present in it, then I would suggest you to directly start with the preperation for this exam. But, if you absolutely do not have any experience working with GCP then, I will advice you to go through a GCP Fundamentals course first where in you get the basic understanding of the Google Cloud Platform as a whole and some of its important features.
